ECTOPIC (INTRAPELVIC) PAPILLA

Asymptomatic hematuria in a 6-year-old boy. Urine culture normal. Ultrasound normal. IVP showed a filling defect (arrow) on the lateral aspect of the right renal pelvis (figure 1 & 2) typical for an ectopic (intrarenal) papilla, a normal variant. (See: Schwartz BB, Mindelzun RE. Ectopic (intrapelvic) renal papilla. J UROL 1972; 108:28-29).
